The main measures taken worldwide to combat COVID-19 coronavirus are measures aimed at reducing human contact.
Isolation, movement restriction, keeping distance between people are all aimed at preventing the virus from spreading from person to person.
Distancing is good, but people have many needs that are somehow related to communicating with people, or needing to work outdoors, in the hospital, etc.
Engineers in different countries design and refine robots that can, in some cases, replace humans, and help some professions limit communication with humans.
Here are some examples where jobs are effectively replacing people.
In Wuhan, where the outbreak began, robots disinfect the streets in residential areas of the city.

A patrol robot in Shenyang Hospital, China, checks the temperature and disinfects people and rooms.
These robots are used in hospitals to reduce the needs of medical staff.

Anhui, China has a fleet of disinfecting robots ready to get started.

In Hunan, China, robot checks morning temperature of a person.

Robots are not only used for disinfection and temperature measurement. The hospital in Yizhou developed a chef’s robot for their kitchen. The robot can produce 100 portions of rice per hour.
The robot works without human supervision, minimizing the number of people in the hospital where coronavirus patients stay.

The engineering students at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok have modified medical “ninja robots” designed for stroke patients to make them useful for patients with COVID-19.
Robots can measure temperature of patients which reduces the interaction of doctors with sick people.
They also have a screen that allows doctors a video-chat with patients.

Delivery robot works in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles is one of many U.S. cities that has closed all non-core businesses through COVID-19 and allowed restaurants to remain open for online delivery only.

The Starship self-propelled robot is delivering in the Emerson Valley, UK.
The robot goes to people’s doors, eliminating the need for human contact.

The world and people are changing. The way people interact, do business, business models are revised. Due to the virus, human labor will be further replaced by robots’ labor. And in the future, there will be robot-cleaner, robot-chef, “robot-I can do anything instead of people”.
